great sketches, awful subject though. i teach high school in orange county, and alot of my colleagues are losing jobs/benefits/ $ this year...tough all around. still nice sketches though :)
I came across your blog and really enjoyed looking through. Your sketches are great - I really want to put more people in my own but I have this 'fear' of sketching in public, which I am on a mission to change. I grinned when I saw your first ever post because I'm in the same boat at the moment - trying to figure out the technical stuff! Still, am getting there slowly but surely!
Thanks Marco! Yeah, it is an awful subject here in California, re: the teachers. We'll see how it all turns out.
Thanks Sandra - yes, drawing in public is a bit daunting. And as for my "first post", it looks like I'll be back at the "technical stuff" again, thanks to Google / Blogger not supporting uploading to my personal domain after May of this year. I've got to figure out what to do with this blog...
I love these sketches! So expressive with wonderful body language. The guy looks depressed too, sort of barely holding himself upright. They remind me of courtroom sketches except with more feeling and a sort of chewiness for the eye that makes you want to just keep looking and savoring. I work for an educational non-profit and the whole world of education in the U.S. is nothing but depressing, although there are a few spots where people are doing good things with actual support from their districts.
I am an artist, and I love reading your blog posts. The sketches are life like and inviting making me feel like I want to keep reading and viewing for at least an hour. Even though I draw using photoshop, I have yet to teach myself to draw images that look more like life like comic strips as the ones do here. Great work!
Thanks Rob! The great thing about Photoshop is you don't have to commit and you can try a zillion different things, time allowing.
Thanks Jana! I've often thought court room sketching would be fun. And, yeah, you're right about the education thing. My wife gets a lot of enthusiasm from the kids she teaches, which is a bright spot for her.

Changes, always changes!
I like both of these sketches a lot- and the added values with photoshop works great here.

Thanks how-to-draw!
