Breakfast sketch

I did this in two sittings over two days: first for the line, next for the color. Thanks to Mattias Adolfsson, I've rediscovered my old Pelikan fountain pen. I asked what kind of ink he used, seeing that it appears to be waterproof and yet is coming out of a fountain pen -- two things that usually don't go together. He told me he uses American Eel ink, so I ordered some. Fantastic stuff. That pen has neither written nor drawn better than it does now.

So i MUST try American Eel. I've been using Pelikan ink myself in my fountain pen and of course, it washes off like, say, mascara.
I like this sketch a lot -- greatly enhanced by your addition of colors.

There's so much I like about this drawing, especially the way you just used drawing on the edge of the greenery, letting the variance in color indicate that there are leaves and also the grey sky and interesting shapes of the buildings. The only thing I don't like is that even when clicking to see it bigger it's still small.

I love your perspective on this. I tend to try to put the entire universe into each drawing and get frustrated because it won't fit on the page big enough...

Noodler's has a entire line of "bulletproof" inks that are waterproof. They're very popular in the fountain pen community. Is there any chance we can see what this drawing looked like before you added the color?

Thanks to you all for the nice comments. Jon, I've noticed that the "bulletproof" ink is waterproof, but the regular American Eel ink is fairly waterproof too -- if you don't scrub it too much with the wet brush. Sorry, I didn't scan the drawing before I added the color, but you can see the black lines pretty clearly here, which is pretty much what it looked like before watercolor. Thanks again...
