Thanks Claudia! It's not pen, it's a very soft 6b 2mm clutch pencil, and the "washes" were done by smearing the graphite with a pastel smudge stump (example). I increased the contrast a little in Photoshop to help a little (example). It does look like pen, though, doesn't it?

...a beautiful, loose sketch! I would like to know with which pen you have drawn it. Was it a water-soluble one or did you a wash afterwards?
