Idyllwild # 3 - snow!

On the day we were to leave, early in the pre-dawn, it snowed. This was intensely exciting to our kids who have only ever seen snow twice before, and one of those was from a moving vehicle. It doesn't snow much in Los Angeles. So overnight the forest was turned into a winter wonderland.

Headed back home on a crowded freeway. You can tell from the palm trees we're back in familiar environs. The kids had so much fun frolicking in the snow that they slept the whole drive back. It was nice for me to get out somewhere different and do a little sketching too.

I so love the way your drawings are so loose and free and yet capture the mood of the scene so well. Beautiful.

Loving all of your Idyllwild sketches. These three are just fantastic and nice to see a different subject matter from you - I love your people too, of course! So I saw your link to Idyllwild - but what county (I mean state!) is that in?? California?

Love this vignette in particular -- because you captured the movement on the freeway (and i believe this is a Nissan -- either Pathfinder or XTerra -- in front of you). I like the irregularity of the frame, and as usual, your colors.

Thank you so much all of you. Andrea, Idyllwild is about three hours or so East, South East actually, from Los Angeles, still in Southern California. For me it's no surprise why people have been shooting movies here for going on 100 years: Los Angeles is two to three hours drive from beach, desert, snow capped mountain, city, river, lake - you name it. And it only rains but rarely, so shoots aren't canceled on account of weather very often.

France, you're right. The car in front of us is our friends' Nissan Pathfinder. We were all traveling together. Good eye - you certainly know your vehicles!
