Barber shop accoutrement

I love my local barber shop. It's like something out of the 1940s. There is a plethora of visual stimuli to keep a pencil busy until one is called to sit in the big chair.

This fellow was nodding off as he was being worked upon.

I've always been attracted to old fashioned barber shops. How nice you got to draw in one. I love the composition of the shop picture. You always have great composition--do you think it through first or is it just intuitive?

I wonder too how all your pages are so beautifully composed! your lines have such grace, like the page just falls together with ease, I marvel at that ability!

Oh what a great choice of topic. I love what you chose to concentrate on: the outlet, the hairdryer, and all in simple, yet beautiful lines. Love the man nodding off too!

Thank you all - wow. Jana, Cindy, France, anonymous :) you are too nice. I had composition pounded into me as a kid, as my dad's a designer ("Look, this is good - that is not so good," etc.); but I really don't think about composition as these little sketches tend to have a will of their own and go their own way, as you guys probably have discovered in your own work. But thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words!
