Drawing with Lily

Joan and the kids were watching a movie the other night that was too scary for Lily (8), so she asked me to draw pictures with her in the dining room instead. She chose, as our subject, to draw some of the many "bobble-head" toys she's got. She handed me mine to draw while she drew hers. This was way more entertaining than watching a movie!

Your linework is to die for, Anthony. And the washes in the Lily drawing must be watercolor as opposed to Photoshop? If they're the latter, you are a wizard. You certainly got the rapt expression on Lily's face and the eager bend of her body over her drawing.

A beautiful watercolor, Anthony ... the light falling on her shoulders is especially pretty ...

Thank you Paula, Laura, Karen and Liz (and welcome!) for your generous comments. It is watercolor, not Photoshop this time, Laura (and thanks for the compliment on my linework - wow). I've recently discovered the Niji Waterbrush that contains its own water supply, so I've been enthusiastically using it on all these recent watercolors. You know how it is with a new toy...

It is so wonderful how your drawings document not only your own life, but also your childrens. Do you keep all of your drawings in your sketchbook or do you ever pull them out and frame them? I would have a difficult time resisting this urge.

Thanks, Suzanne. No, they stay in the books. I try to do one painting a year for Joan on Christmas, but other than that most of the art on our walls is from the kids. I'd rather see their work up there anyway :)

One can always scan and print the sketchbook sketch vs. tearing it out to frame (duh, paula!).

Laura said it, the most beautiful lines! I am so admiring of how beautifully you capture these fleeting moments.
